On the contrary to what you have been told with all of that very slick advertising and marketing and obsession with the low-fat or fat-free diet, saturated fats are not the harmful monsters they are sometimes portrayed to be. Saturated fats are in fact part of the necessary requirements for a healthy diet and are needed in adequate amounts for the body's metabolic nutritional requirements. They are found in meats, poultry skin, dairy products and a range of oils of the tropical sorts, like coconut and palm oils. What roles do saturated fats play? 1.About half of our cell walls are made up of saturated fat. Saturated fat contributes to the structural integrity of the cell wall (phospholipid bilayer...

Eat more raw foods! When cooked the heat causes vitamins and enzymes present in food to denature. This means that the vitamins and enzymes loose their normal molecular shape and are far less able to effectively provide for the body's metabolic nutritional requirements for smooth running. The same can be said about frozen foods. As you'd expect, the degree or severity to which the food is temperature treated; be it from cooking or deep freezing, or through industrial manufacturing processes, the less healthy it becomes. However, poaching or steaming is okay, since it does not denature the food. Getting the right balance between vitamins and enzymes. When a good healthy, wholesome natural diet, such...

High blood pressure is the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes. For example, currently, over forty-three million Americans suffer from high blood pressure. It has also been said that something like ninety per cent of Americans who haven't got high blood pressure soon will unless the appropriate lifestyle changes are implemented. 'These facts and figures generally reflect the rest of the western world. There are three reasons for high blood pressure: 1.Atherosclerotic plaque; fatty deposits lining the inner walls of the arteries, which obstruct blood flow cause high blood pressure. 2.Acid wastes deposit on the inner walls of blood vessels. Because the vessels become narrower, blood pressure...

1. Take time. Outlining requires just as much effort and energy as writing. Spend time on it and you'll save time writing later. 2. Start with Brainstorming. Capture everything somewhere. You don't' want to waste an idea so start by allowing everything come through. Don't be afraid to stray from the original topic or question. Random ideas might lead to great perspectives of the main topic. 3. Focus on the big picture. After you've brainstormed - think about the point of your essay or paper? Look through all your ideas and see what can be an umbrella idea - the main point. Is it a twist of the original idea? Is it wide enough and still interesting? 4. Pick appropriate subpoints. After you determine...

The anti-aging skin care field has boomed, with hundreds of new products being introduced to the market on what feels like almost on a daily basis. This has resulted in what we may call "skin care overload." People have become overwhelmed and confused by the countless number of ingredients we are told are necessary for anti-aging. It has become impossible to access and apply even a fraction of these ingredients due to the cost and time involved. We feel compelled to buy multiple products every month and layer them on in order to do the most for our skin. But, as we fill our medicine cabinets with creams and serums, we are faced with the daily questions of which shall we use, which are safe and which...

While talking about cultures of a particular nation - anyone outside the country will not, in the normal course, be able to distinguish them by the location. For example, viewing from outside, all Americans will be classified as one to follow "American Culture"  although the people belong to different parts of America – like Texans, Californians or Georgians- and there may be slight differences in culture. Similarly, all the people living in the United Kingdom are "British" for the outsiders, irrespective of their place of origin in England. As for languages spoken – all Americans and British – speak English, of course with the slang of nativity specific to the region they live. Therefore if...

Our bodies receive, break down and assimilate nutrients from our food. Our bodies convert nutrients into energy, which is then allocated within the body. The body has seven main priorities. Our bodies first priority is vital organs, such as the heart, lungs and brain. People with weak vital organs function at the lowest rung on the ladder of health. Our second priority is muscular function, including smooth and skeletal. People having issues with nonvital organs function at this level. Thirdly, the bodies cleansing functions continually remove toxins to maintain homeostasis and pH, a measure of acidity. Our bodies cleanse through excretory organs, skin and lungs. It's no secret that belly fat is a huge problem in well developed countries where food is quickly accessible. Belly fat is also an indicator of many emerging problems, one of which is disruption in body energy processes that promote cancer. Research shows that storing an excess of fat including belly fat can promote Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) that cause many body energy imbalances. One such imbalance causes resistance to insulin. You have heard of insulin in its relationship to diabetes, but research shows that it also is associated with inducing colon, prostate, early breast cancer and heart disease. (AICR Science Now) Is this a good enough reason for you to become alert, and consider...

It's a prevalent contemporary idea to think that looking younger entails using treatments such as collagen, Botox and plastic surgery. This is instant makeover as seen on TV which probably requires a month of serious discomfort. I plead guilty of using this kind of programming for entertainment. The fact is I am truly fascinated by this mindset. Simply because I know that one's mindset is almost like concrete. Once you get that idea it is glued into your attitude and behavior. Here is a proven excellent alternative. Even though you might not even want to be enlightened by facts. Would you want to know that these procedures have very little effect to actually slow the aging process? This kind of...

A Longing for Truth

Posted by admin

Truth is something that we all search for in one way or another. Some of us find it through religion, spirituality or experience, but all the many paths lead to one truth. The ultimate truth is our relationship in relation to God/Spirit. Kabir, a great Sufi poet, refers to God as the Guest inside you and says; "When the Guest is being searched for, it is the intensity of the longing for the Guest that does all the work." So this longing for truth is everything we need to find it. J. Krishnamurti says; "to truly find out what is truth there must be great love and a deep awareness of man's relationship to all things - which means that one is not concerned with one's own progress and achievements." The...

Cosmetic surgeons have used collagen extensively to heal patients' burns but collagen products may be also used in a wide variety of dental applications as well as bone reconstruction, surgical and orthopaedic tasks. Household cosmetics using Collagen are only now coming into widespread use for beauty treatment. A significant attribute in providing the structural platform for cells, tissue structures and vital organs has collagen. If collagen did not exist, the system would virtually break into pieces. Collagen, composed of three jointly formed protein chains in rigid multiple helix, is the systems foremost structural protein. This unique system provides collagen with tensile power stronger than...

Unbalanced Translocation When a part of a chromosome breaks and attaches to a different chromosome, the process is referred to as translocation. If there is no loss or gain of material during this process, it is called balanced translocation which does not affect the individual. However, when there is a loss or gain, it refers to unbalanced translocation and results in a genetic disorder. In case of the occurrence of a balanced translocation in a parent, there are 10% chances for unbalanced translocation to occur in the new-born child. But there are also cases, wherein the child experiences a de novo or spontaneous unbalanced translocation at times. In some rare cases, there are chances where the...

The body's production of collagen slows with aging. It means, it truly slows down. We may notice it on the surface of our skin when tiny lines and wrinkles start been visible in our thirties. This is the time when, the lack of collagen production and collagen degeneration is already affecting the inner life of human bodies. The damage gets our alertness as strains and sprains become more severe. Things we have always like to do, like swimming, hiking or bicycling suddenly seem more painful. Injuries that have never proven serious before begin to hurt us. Bones, joints pain becomes more problematic. We are feeling the pains of aging. Collagen supplies the different organs, muscles and tissues their...

In the technology age, many people and businesses utilize products that make it easier to communicate, store information, and have access to everything at their fingertips. One significant technological move in the health industry is digitalizing patient medical records. This provides a number of benefits to the clinic or hospital using the system. They can have quicker access to each patient's records, store x-rays and other test results, and reduce paper waste overall. But where does that leave the patient? With network systems, hackers and other glitches in the system can happen. This can open up a number of patients to having their medical records available to those that are authorized to view...

Employers set the tone for workplace conduct, ethics and compliance through the creation of a company-wide ethics and compliance program. An organization committed to ethics and compliance can reduce their exposure to risks, such as fraud and bribery, by enforcing policies and administering consequences for all violations. Typically, if an employee knows they are likely to be caught or the penalty for violating regulations is significant, they will be reluctant to make risky decisions. I have quite difficult skin; oily, open pores, lots of old scars from mild acne and now- even more frustratingly - hyper pigmentation -- that I got from the Turkish sun on a holiday a few years ago. So, it is important for me that a foundation has good coverage, as well as the ability to make me look beautiful. And, being oily skinned and prone to blocked pores and the odd breakout, it is a massive bonus if the product can also be mattifying, non-comodegenic and actually manage to stay on my skin for more than a few hours. However, when searching for 'the best foundation, my first priority is 'is it the best in terms of how it makes me look? Best Foundation for Creating a Natural, Glowing, Youthful...

Earlier this week a reader commented on a book by Dr. Duane Graveline entitled, Lipitor: Thief of Memory. I had heard of Dr. Graveline earlier and was intending to comment some time in future on his work. I have not yet read Lipitor Thief of Memory or Dr. Graveline's more recent work Statin Drug Side Effects however after reading the comment I realized that I can't always wait until I have become perfectly expert in hundreds of topics before deciding that they are worth discussion, really, there might be one post a season if I did that. I am entirely confident from what I do know now that this topic is worth further discussion. Dr. Graveline has an eclectic and storied background. He is both a...

In participating on the web business industry, one always has a choice whether to franchise or go for an internet based business opportunity. Deciding which one is better can be tough, but there are certain perks only the latter can actually credit to itself. No matter how often it is said, it seems to be not enough for people to know that there are tons of ways to make money online. The most lucrative method, of course, is by owning a venture and profiting from the proceeds out of one's hard work and cunning. However, that craftiness needs to start somewhere. Most people think that skipping out on the startup procedure is a lot wiser than going through every step of building a business, which is...

There a kind of fat that is really difficult to target with conventional exercise. It is the fat around your internal organs, called visceral fat. It is completely different than the fat beneath your skin, the one you poke at and pinch. Visceral fat is a storehouse for toxins that can be already causing serious and chronic diseases. The problem with visceral fat is that you don't have to be obese to have it. More than 30 millions of Americans have it. They look slim but they are fat on the inside. This is where your type of training will play a major role when it comes to your body composition and health. Conventional cardio training, that is 30 mins and more of low to moderate intensity workouts...

Prenatal Genetic Testing - Ethical Considerations

Posted by admin

Many commentators are concerned that physicians have an agenda when they discuss results of prenatal testing with their patients. Often, physicians have preconceived values regarding what should be an exclusively patient-centered arena. For example, many physicians are predisposed to recommend abortion when prenatal testing reveals the presence of genetic or structural anomalies that would result in disability. Such predispositions and preconceptions may be distinguished from an objective approach in which the physician provides in-depth background on the specific potential disability and presents possible outcomes for the family, whether they choose to abort or to continue the pregnancy. Using such...

Prenatal and postnatal genetic enhancement may ultimately result in a post-human society. These techniques remain in the science fiction realm for the foreseeable future, but a consideration of their implications is critically important for our ability to successfully manage their impact. What might be good concerning genetic enhancement and what might be not so good? In the early going there would be questions of distributive justice. As the procedures would be costly in the initial period of availability, the rich would get richer. One solution could involve government subsidies for those who are economically disadvantaged. As a taxpayer, I'd resist such use of my contributions to federal coffers...

cPRIME is a new mlm company in the industry founded by Rob DeBoer. Since this company is in pre-launch there is very little literature on the opportunity but from what I can see, it seems the company seems to be based around their very own cPRIME magnetic Neo band bracelet. Proposals in favor of reproductive cloning (RC) create immediate controversy. Passionate proponents and equally passionate opponents can be found in any Starbucks, every state capitol, and the halls of Congress. Opponents are concerned with the possibility of treating children who are the products of cloning as means to various ends, rather than treating them as ends in themselves. Opponents are also concerned that these children, even if they are treated with full respect and as ends in themselves, will not have opportunities to have fully "open futures".1 Prospective parents may want to use reproductive cloning as a method to address infertility. For these potential parents, RC would be an...

Only two years ago, in the fall of 2007, two teams of researchers reported the successful reprogramming of an adult human cell back to an original state of pluripotency. Such a reprogrammed cell - termed an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPS cell) - has the ability to differentiate into any type of cell. iPS cells have the ability to become specialized cells such as pancreatic islet cells which produce insulin, intestinal lining cells which produce digestive enzymes, kidney cells, heart cells, nerve cells, skin cells, and muscle, ligament, cartilage, and bone cells. Under the right conditions iPS cells could produce specific cells, tissues, and organs for use in treating disease and/or...

Safe human reproductive cloning can only be achieved by conducting research and developing techniques that ensure the safety of the gestating mother and the health and welfare of the child. The huge obstacle to designing safe procedures is that any such research will involve experimentation on humans. Medical experiments on humans are conducted all the time, but new drugs, procedures, and devices are tested on animals first. Clinical drug trials are a classic example of human experimentation. Phase I clinical trials are the "safety" phase of bringing a new drug to market. Animal testing has been done, most often in mice. Data have been reported and analyzed, and the FDA has permitted human testing...

Families will struggle with these choices, regardless of whether withholding or withdrawing treatment is being considered. For the ethics consultant, it's good to begin with the understanding that withholding and withdrawing are moral and ethical equivalents. That clears the playing field. It seems likely that family members who are guilt-ridden - for all the things they did to and for the dying relative and all the things they didn't do - will have great difficulty with any of these choices. As they're losing their relative permanently, all the past can now never be made right. So there's a strong tendency to hold on regardless of the medical circumstances. Such individuals could never be...

In a landmark 2002 medical research article, the authors reported that a novel hair loss treatment which used a high, dosage, high potency form of saw palmetto extract, reversed pattern hair loss in two out of three study subjects dosed with the formula. Prior to this research paper, several open label studies demonstrated similar benefits. Now, numerous hair products incorporate saw palmetto - although it is interesting that none have managed to produce similarly positive objectively proven clinical outcomes. Granting for the moment that not every form or dosage of saw palmetto works against hair loss, let us examine some of the reasons why saw palmetto is nevertheless interesting. The palmetto...

The Beauty of Ballet

See her spin and twirl. She floats around the stage like a feather in the wind. Every time you think she is going to fall, another breeze comes and sweeps her back up into the scene. No amount of gravity seems to hold her down, juxtaposing physics as we know them. Some critique amateur, while others swear a virtuoso descended from the heavens. The theater roars with applause and wails of jealousy. What am I talking about? The beauty of a ballet dancer controlling the stage. The dancer has one purpose: convince the crowd that the techniques seem easy. This illusion of ballet entices even the most relaxed viewers. Dancers are not born this way. They are molded into it by their teachers, peers and...

Very often when people begin to learn about bird flu, they jump to the conclusion that because medicine has advanced by quantum leaps since the 1918-19 influenza pandemic (global epidemic), there is nothing to worry about. They are certainly right about the advance of medicine, which has been extraordinary by any measure. Unfortunately, when it comes to dealing with a bird-flu pandemic, these advances fall short in many areas. To name the most significant: 1. Bird flu is caused by an influenza virus, for which there are only four approved antiviral agents in the U.S. The virus has extensive resistance to two of these medicines already, and resistance might develop in the remaining two once they are...

Soccer can be an incredibly demanding sport, particularly on the feet. During a typical 90-minute professional game a player may cover between 8,000 and 11,000 meters, or between five and seven miles. Around two-thirds of this distance is spent walking or jogging, while the other third is spent sprinting, cruising, or backing. There is a great diversity in the movement involved in playing soccer, not to mention the need to kick the ball. Thus, soccer cleats play a huge role in the effectiveness of the soccer player, and are the most important piece of equipment to the competitor. Searching the internet effectively is a very important skill to acquire. At some point in your life, you may need to use the internet to search for resources for school, work or even home. So how should you search the internet effectively? Besides the right keywords of course, you need to tell the search engine specifically what you need if you are not just searching for a generic/broad topic. And being specific does not just mean typing the whole question. Most people have this misconception that the keywords refer to the topic/issue that they are looking for. That is only partially correct. Besides the topic/issue that you are looking for, if you are searching for something specific about it, then...

I am a child of the 50's. I finished my secondary school education in the late 60's, my university studies in the early 70's. My career in education spanned 30 years and ended in 2005. You can do the math and estimate that I am in my late 50's, and you would be right. Throughout my life, funerals of family members and long time friends have been concentrated collection points from my past relationships. At this stage, it is common to encounter people whom I haven't seen for 20 or 30 years. The same goes for high school reunions. The game of recognize and recall can be kind of fun. There are other emotions that fit here as well; surprise, shock, pleasure, sadness, joy, pleasure, etc. I have noticed a...

The best way to gauge the validity of a degree or a diploma is by checking the national accreditation of the school you get it from. There are governing bodies (usually established by the national government itself) that accredit institutions on their capability to educate students. In India, in particular, operating Universities are required to have accreditation from an official governing body in order to be valid. That simply means that all institutions should be accredited by either the National Board of Accreditation, or NBA, or the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The only exceptions to this rule are Universities established by India's Act of Parliament. Online PhD...
