Successful graduate Li Zengqiu (March 2006)
On March 13th Li Zengqiu successfully defended his MS research thesis (entitled "Characterization of the ACBD3 protein"). Zengqiu spent two years in our laboratory, developing an expression/purification system for the study of this adapter protein, which we believe is involved in recruiting Protein kinase A to various ion channels. Zengqiu will return to Japan in the summer of 2006, to assume a position with the BASF Corporation.

Successful MS Graduate: Cora Sonrisa-Rillero (2004).

Honolulu Marathon (2004)
Congratulations to Cora Rillero, who ran the Honolulu Marathon on Sunday, December 12. This was Cora's first full-length marathon and she completed the race in under 5 hours. There were 25,671 runners who registered for the 32nd Annual Honolulu Marathon. It started on Ala Moana Boulevard, winds through downtown back to Waikiki, then out east to Hawaii Kai, and finally returning to the finish line at Kapiolani Park.
May 2004 Poster prize.
Andrea Small-Howard, a postdoctoral fellow in the LCBI, recently presented a poster entitled 'Complex cAMP Responses Associated with Ligation of Co-Expressed Cannabinoid Receptor Isoforms in Mast Cells' at the University of Hawaii Annual Biomedical Sciences Symposium. Andrea was awarded a Dean's award for her presentation, as it was judged to be the best poster in the Post-doctorate category. Congratulations Andrea!
Graduate Faculty Appointment (2004).
Dr Turner has been appointed to the University of Hawaii Graduate Faculty in the Department of Microbiology. This appointment enables students from the Department of Microbiology who have an interest in immunological questions to carry out research in the LCBI.
Successful presentations by Alex Stokes (March 2004).
Alex Stokes attended the Keystone Symposium on 'Mast Cells in physiology and Disease', in Taos, NM at the beginning of March 2004. he presented an excellent poster on the regulation and possible function of TRPV2 in mast cells, and reprised this presentation at the University of Warwick during a subsequent trip to the UK.
Research Award for Cora Rillero (2004).
Cora Rillero is a PhD student in the LCBI, and is registered in the Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) graduate program at the University of Hawaii. Within the LCBI, cora is studying inositol phospholipid signaling pathways that control calcium responses in mast cells. Read the details...
